I don't know that the need for power is a substitute for the soul, so much as it is a mask behind which to hide our own sense of inadequacy or emptiness. Those at peace with themselves do not seem to feel the need to acquire more power. On the other hand, they are the ones from whom power emanates effortlessly, the product of an integrated whole self.
